Drive Medical to acquire HurryCane

8/20/2015

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — Medical equipment manufacturer Drive Medical announced Thursday that it had entered an agreement to acquire HurryCane’s entire product line. The acquisition of HurryCane, which counts among its products the top-selling cane in the United States, is expected to close Aug. 25.

“HurryCane is a terrific brand with a breakthrough product that already offers security and stability to millions of customers across North America,” Drive Medical CEO Harvey P. Diamond said. “We believe that along with that brand recognition comes a huge market for HurryCane products, and with Drive’s extensive manufacturing and distribution capabilities, these products will soon be sold all over the world, as will the many new HurryCane products soon to be introduced.”

The HurryCane’s design allows mobility across different terrains, and the line includes the Freedom Edition and HurryCane Go products. Drive plans to use the brand and market it to Drive’s network of global providers, distributors and retailers. Drive’s VP channel development, Kirsten Newquist, will be overseeing marketing and promotion for Hurrycane under Drive’s co-founder and EVP Jeffrey Schwartz.

“Over the past three years, we’ve been able to see so many lives in the U.S. positively impacted by the HurryCane,” HurryCane founder Chuck Hengel said. ”Now, we’re excited for Drive Medical to bring this life-changing device to people on a global scale.”

With the acquisition, HurryCane now has behind it the clout of one of the fastest growing durable medical equipment manufacturers and distributors with distribution and offices in nine countries, inlcuding the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Australia, Romania and China, according to the company. HurryCane joins the company’s line of mobility products, beds, wheelchairs, self-assist product, patient room equipment and personal care products, among other offerings.
