Four-week sales slump at Rite Aid

CAMP HILL, Pa. Rite Aid on Thursday posted a 2.5% same-store sales decrease for the four weeks ended June 26, with front-end same-store sales declining by 1.1% and pharmacy same-store sales, which included an approximate 157 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, declining 3.1%.

Prescriptions filled at comparable stores decreased 3.7% over the prior-year period.

Total drug store sales for the four-week period decreased 3.3% to $1.9 billion. Prescription revenue accounted for 67.4% of drug store sales, and third-party prescription revenue represented 96.3% of pharmacy sales.

On June 26, the company operated 4,759 stores, compared with 4,822 stores in the like period a year ago.
