CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets announced Friday that during its annual Bag Hunger campaign, their customers donated $588,075 to local and regional food banks in four states. The campaign lasted throughout the month September.
“Giant/Martin’s remains committed to the fight against hunger by supporting our local food banks and pantries in their ongoing mission to help feed our neighbors,” Giant/Martin’s president Tom Lenkevich said. “I want to thank all of our generous customers and associates who make our Bag Hunger campaigns so successful.”
Major recipient food banks included the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Philabundance, Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley, FeedMore - Central Virginia Food Bank, Greater Berks County Food Bank, Water Street Rescue Mission in Lancaster, Maryland Food Bank – Western Branch and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank in Virginia.
Last year, Giant/Martin’s donated $12.3 million to about 100 hunger relief agencies through customer, vendor and corporate support, part of which included its Meat the Needs program, which delivered more than a million pounds of meat to regional food banks and pantries.
