The following awards were given at Good Neighbor Pharmacy's annual conference and trade show ThoughtSpot, which was held in Las Vegas:

  • Pharmacy of the Year — Continental Rx of Miami: This award recognizes a pharmacy that uses best practices to deliver the best in patient care, marketing and branding, peer-to-peer networking, leadership and operational efficiencies. Continental Rx, which has been in business since 1972 and is operated by Javier Peral and his staff of 30, offer "personalized service and respect" to customers while actively promoting health care in their neighborhood with such initiatives as local awareness programs, a local health and fitness expo and more;

  • Patient Care award — Family Pharmacy of Flint, Mich.: This award recognizes a pharmacy that has devoted its time, talent and resources to a wide variety of causes and community service to foster a strong, health community. Family Pharmacy, which has served the Flint, Mich., community since 1977, works to provide services that will benefit the community as a whole. One example is its Senior Food Box program, where the pharmacy works with a local food back and other organizations to put together boxes of nonperishable items to help the local seniors who may not be eating well. The monthly food donations have fulfilled the needs of their customers, as well as others referred to the pharmacy by local healthcare workers;

  • Outstanding Marketing and Advertising award — Fox Drug of Torrance, Calif.: Given to a pharmacy that goes beyond basic advertising and marketing to achieve business growth, Fox Drug believes outstanding customer service is its strongest marketing tool, but have used such tools as customer loyalty programs, mailing out coupons on a monthly basis and working with local physicians to strengthen partnerships and maximize patient care. Fox Drug also is committed to local advertising to drive special promotions and wellness days;

  • Exceptional Business Growth award — McCrory's Pharmacy of El Paso, Texas: Honoring a pharmacy that has demonstrated managerial expertise and leadership (which has resulted in significant improvement or expansion of pharmacy service), this award was given to McCrory's Pharmacy for its focus on customer service: the pharmacy uses every interaction with their patients as a training tool for others. Every first-time customer is asked about their experience and bi-weekly meetings with McCrory's entire staff reinforces their commitment to patient care and focus on the customer. What's more, any dissatisfied customer is referred to store owner (and pharmacist) Gary McCrory, who tries to resolve the issue. This dedication to service has increased the transfer of prescriptions to McCrory's, as well as increased sales; and

  • Advocate for Pharmacy award — Odette Leonelli of Kovacs Frey Pharmacy, located in Redondo Beach, Calif.: Given to a pharmacist who takes action on the issues that community pharmacies and their patients may encounter, Odette Leonelli has advocated patient health by joining the legal fight against proposed cuts to patients benefits and pharmacy reimbursement in the state of California. Believing communication is the key to advocacy, Leonelli also writes to senators, congressmen and the President on behalf of her customers and their health.
