Hannaford's president to retire, successor named

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Hannaford Supermarkets has that Brad Wise will retire from his role as company president on June 30. Succeeding Wise is Michael Vail, a 29-year veteran who is currently chief merchant and supply chain officer for Delhaize America.



“Brad's announcement of his retirement marks a transition in his distinguished and successful career with our company," stated Kevin Holt, CEO Delhaize America. "During the next few months, Brad and Mike will work together to develop a smooth transition plan to ensure the continued forward momentum of our Hannaford strategic plan. I am grateful that we were able to tap into strong internal talent to ensure a seamless transition.”



Wise is a 30-year veteran of Hannaford and Delhaize America. He began his career with the organization as a retail management trainee and worked as a store manager and regional VP of retail operations, among other roles.



Prior to becoming Hannaford president in 2012, Wise served as SVP of human resources for Delhaize America, the parent company of Hannaford. Delhaize America operates more than 1,200 supermarkets in the eastern United States.


Early in Vail’s career, his roles with Hannaford included retail management trainee, store manager, district manager, category manager and director of deli merchandising. Prior to leading the supply chain for Delhaize America, Vail was president and COO of Sweetbay Supermarket in Florida.
