MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Based on its recent analysis of the patient shared decision-making market, Frost & Sullivan on Tuesday recognized Rite Aid's Health Dialog with the 2016 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Leadership.

“The company’s comprehensive SDM tools and capabilities, combined with its integrated suite of population health tools, are unique in the industry," stated Nancy Fabozzi, principal analyst Frost & Sullivan. "According to the population’s requirements, Health Dialog’s clients can implement either a comprehensive and tailored SDM program or just specific components,” she said. “The company designs cost-effective patient education and engagement strategies and ensures they are relevant to every patient across disease stages and population segments, facilitating consistent and efficient decision making.”

"Shared decision making is an essential tool to engage and educate patients and a cornerstone of Health Dialog's total population health management solutions," stated Web Golinkin, CEO Health Dialog, in accepting the recognition.

Health Dialog is a market leader in SDM, Frost & Sullivan noted, having pioneered integrated, customized, white-label decision-making solutions across the healthcare industry. Its unique SDM program comprises proprietary, advanced analytics; educational medical content and decision aids; as well as multi-channel coaching strategies. These elements drive value-based patient SDM to help enhance outcomes and lower costs of care for customers.

Health Dialog offers a suite of integrated total population health management services to help reduce costs and increase quality of care for its customer base of health plans, self-insured employers and providers.

Its SDM program has three core components:

  • Predictive analytics: This technology employs proprietary, advanced, modular analytics to stratify populations into nine disease stages, from well to recovery, and predicts risk of condition progression across the entire population segment. Based on these ‘Care Pathways,’ Health Dialog tailors intervention strategies, including modality and outreach, in line with clients’ clinical and economic goals;

  • Evidence-based medical decision aids: Best-in-class content covers 38 health topics and explains test, treatment, and care options for chronic and preference-sensitive conditions. Available online, in print and in DVD formats, these decision aids are easily accessible, easy-to-use, and feature the experiences of real people who have faced a treatment decision or are managing a condition; and

  • Health coaching: Multi-channel strategies connect patients and members with health coaches via digital platforms as well as by phone, mail, text message, and face-to-face meetings. The expert team comprises nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapists, lifestyle coaches, and pharmacists with experience in behavior change methodologies and motivational coaching.

Health Dialog drew upon its experience in the market to launch its Health Dialog Interact™ Personal Health Portal. This portal helps risk-bearing organizations engage their entire population, not just the unwell, to lead healthier lives. The middle segment of the population, which is neither sick nor well but has pre-conditions, accounts for 53% of an organization’s healthcare costs. The Health Dialog Interact Portal aims to guide the largest possible group of members to better health.

The Health Dialog Interact Personal Health Portal is powered by Health Dialog’s proprietary analytics engine, the Care Pathways models, which categorize individuals under one of the nine stages of wellness beginning with ‘well’ and progressing through ‘at risk,’ ‘condition onset’ and ‘sentinel stage,’ and ending with ‘recovery.’ By establishing the individual’s position on the pathway, Care Pathways’ robust analytics makes communication and engagement strategies more personalized and thus effective.

“Through the Health Dialog Interact Portal’s multi-channel communications capabilities, organizations can deliver all of Health Dialog’s assets — health coaching, SDM, care management programs and wellness tools — to the right person, at the right time,” noted Fabozzi. “Additionally, the portal links various company assets that leverage SDM components to support medication compliance, which can greatly reduce healthcare costs.”

Overall, Health Dialog’s SDM offerings, as well as its new Health Dialog Interact Personal Health Portal, present payers and providers with a comprehensive, integrated, and modular platform that promote better patient engagement, helping them transition toward value-based care and reimbursement.

Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed a product with innovative features and functionality, gaining rapid acceptance in the market. The award recognizes the quality of the solution and the customer value enhancements it enables.
