ALEXANDRIA, Va.— That National Association of Chain Drug Stores on Tuesday announced the passing of former NACDS chairman Jerry Weinberger, former CEO Gray Drug Stores. He passed away earlier in the morning, the association noted.

"We were honored to have Jerry serve as the chairman of NACDS from May 1976 to April 1977," NACDS stated. "Weinberger was involved with NACDS over the course of his entire business career and was awarded the NACDS Sheldon W. Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. Weinberger was associated with Gray Drug Stores, founded by his father, since his high school days. After graduating from the Wharton School of Finance, he worked in a variety of positions until he was named a VP of Gray's in 1959. He became CEO of Gray's in 1969.

Weinberger also served as campaign chairman of United Way of Cleveland and a Life Trustee of the Jewish Community Federation and University School, The Plain Dealer reported.
