Iowa Hy-Vee location to carry home medical equipment

WATERLOO, Iowa One Hy-Vee store is trying something new that could change the way the company operates, according to the WCFCourier.

The store has added home medical equipment to its line of products. The Hy-Vee Home Medical offers everything from scooters to diabetic shoes to lift chairs. It’s being branded as an extension of the pharmacy and a way to keep customers in the store while their getting their prescription.

“It seemed like we had a lot of customers who would fill their medical prescriptions at the pharmacy, but we would have to send them across town for their equipment needs,” said Hy-Vee Logan Avenue store director Greg Wery. “So I asked, why not have one here?”

The home medical section has plenty of items on display, but a good majority of the business comes from orders. The staff also delivers and installs the equipment free of charge.

There are no plans, as of yet, to expand the program to other stores.
