MyMeds uses psychology to boost adherence

7/10/2013

MINNEAPOLIS — A new app for Android and the Apple iPhone aims to combine technology with psychology to reduce poor patient adherence to medication therapies.

MyMeds, developed by nephrologist Rajiv Shah, uses specialized technology to create subconscious memory associations between medication names and reasons for taking them. The app includes a HIPAA-compliant cloud server and database with more than 14,000 prescription and OTC drugs and supplements and uses a mobile and Web-based component. The Journal of the American Medical Association recently named it as one of the two best medication adherence apps.

"At the core of MyMeds is a team approach to improving medication adherence — and ultimately, improving health — that unites pharmacists, caregivers, patients, relatives and physicians," Shah said.
