New Own skin care line hits Duane Reade, Whole Foods

6/29/2012

NEW YORK — Taking a complete approach to skin health and leveraging conjugated linoleic acid — or CLA, a natural compound derived from the safflower plant — is the new skin care line called Own.

Launched in spring 2012, Own is available in Duane Reade stores and recently entered the Northern California market at Whole Foods.

“I was seeing an abundance of safe, eco-friendly skin care in the marketplace, but what I wasn’t seeing was safe, eco-friendly skin care that actually worked,” stated Alastair Dorward, founder and CEO of Own. “This revolutionary concept in skin care creates healthy, smooth skin without the harmful side effects of retinol. Consumers feel better and look better after using Own products, and that’s the most rewarding part of the business for me.”

Dorward has been a consumer goods entrepreneur since 1996, when he founded Covent Garden, a natural refrigerated soup brand. He then moved on to to become founding CEO of Method Products from its inception in March 2001 to August 2008. Own marks Dorward’s newest venture.

The skin care collection, which is exclusive to the United States, is comprised of a Rejuvenating Cleanser ($12), Lifting Eye Cream ($24), Firming Silk Concentrate ($24.99), Refining Moisture Night Cream ($24) and Dual Protecting Day Lotion with SPF 30 ($23).
