Publix commences flu vaccination program

9/26/2011

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix announced that it once again is offering immunizations against the flu this season.

This year, however, the company is offering traditional flu shots, a needle-free option. Additionally, some of its pharmacies will offer the intradermal flu vaccine — which is injected into the skin instead of the muscle and uses a much smaller needle than the regular flu shot — and Fluzone High Dose, which is recommended for patients ages 65 years and older.

Traditional flu shots and needle-free flu shots cost $30, while the intradermal flu vaccine costs $35 and Fluzone High Dose costs $60. Publix accepts cash, Medicare Part B and many other third-party insurances as payment for flu shots, the retailer said.

“Offering seasonal flu shots is an example of the premier service our customers expect from Publix,” Publix director of media and community relations Maria Brous said. “Publix cares about its customers, and vaccinations also help lessen the spread of communicable diseases in our community.”
