QuickChek sponsors Veterans Day weekend race

11/11/2016

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- QuickChek is supporting local veterans as a sponsor of the 9th annual Long Island Run for the Warriors in Lindenhurst, N.Y.

The annual event benefits Hope for the Warriors, a nonprofit whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty.

“We pride ourselves in being active members of the communities we serve and we’re pleased to continue to honor and support our local service members and their families who give so much of themselves,” said QuickChek CEO Dean Durling, whose company has 147 store locations throughout Long Island, the Hudson Valley and New Jersey.

The Run For The Warriors race series provides wounded service members encouragement and the opportunity to pursue the sport of running, walking, or cycling to assist in their physical and emotional rehabilitation. Races include a 10K, a 5K and 1-Mile Walk/Run; all are adaptive equipment friendly. More than 3,000 runners took part last year.

The fresh convenience market chain, which has a store in nearby Lake Grove, will supply bottled water and cookies at the Long Island Run for the Warriors.

The retailer recently raised $163,002 in just four weeks to help support post-9/11 service members and their families through an in-store donation program and a charity golf outing during the summer.

The company was also a sponsor of the 6th Precinct Cops Who Care charity bicycling tour to raise funds for local military veterans in April along Suffolk County’s North Shore. More than 300 riders, including the QuickChek ride team consisting of company executives and store personnel, took part in either a 25-mile ride or a 50-mile ride.
