Regional Rx Report

1/14/2008

SEATTLE Bartell Drugs, a 55-store regional pharmacy chain nestled in the shadows of Mt. Rainier and the Space Needle, wants to maintain its focus on health and wellness for its Pacific Northwest shoppers but also energize the shopping experience. To help achieve this goal, the company will unveil a new décor package in a store to open early March in Seattle’s Upper Queen Anne neighborhood. However, some of the elements already are visible in the company’s Lake City store that opened in November.—

“Part of our objective is for the product to be the hero more than the color of the wall. For any retail environment, when there is so much packaging, there is a lot of messaging already happening, and we don’t want to compete with that,” said Rebecca Siegmund, assistant vice president of marketing.

The company also completed the installation of a new point-of-sale system in November.

In addition, Bartell in June rolled out its Everyday Elements exclusive skin care line.

“Our overall objective is to be true to the Northwest, hence a feeling of health and wellness, but to still have some energy to enhance the customer shopping experience,” Siegmund said.

Bartell has been family-owned for 117 years and is the nation’s oldest drug chain.
