Report: Walgreens close to satisfying FTC with new Rite Aid deal

9/18/2017

DEERFIELD, Ill.— Walgreens is expected to again modify the number of stores the Chicagoland retailer is seeking to buy from Rite Aid in an effort to satisfy FTC concerns, Bloomberg reported Monday morning, citing sources familiar with the matter.

"A modified deal would mark the fourth attempt by Walgreens to win approval for its plan to dramatically expand its footprint through a transaction with Rite Aid," Bloomberg noted. "If successful, it would become the No. 1 pharmacy chain in the U.S. by number of store locations, edging out market leader CVS Health."

In an email to Drug Store News, a Walgreens spokesman offered no comment regarding the Bloomberg article, though advised followers "to continue to stay tuned."
