Rite Aid, Lindora to offer weight management program for January

1/3/2008

CAMP HILL, Pa. During the month of January, Rite Aid and one of its in-store clinic partners, Lindora, will offer a multi-faceted free weight management program to help people lose 10 percent of their body weight and make major improvements in their health and wellness, the retailer announced Wednesday.

“Being overweight increases your risk for over fifty diseases and conditions including heart disease, diabetes and hypertension,” stated John Learish, Rite Aid’s senior executive vice president of marketing. “Through our partnership with Lindora, Rite Aid is able to offer the programs, resources and support to help people safely reach their weight loss goals, and ultimately, live healthier, happier lives.”

Participants who register for the online weight loss program can also register for their chance to win $100 per pound lost during the program, up to $10,000.

Rite Aid and Lindora have developed weight management tips and information packaged in the Rite Weight Plan, a safe and effective step-by-step online weight loss program available at www.riteaid.com.

The companies have also developed a 12-page comprehensive Healthy Weight Guide that provides information on the growing obesity epidemic and metabolic syndrome, offers advice on weight management and includes a Body Mass Index calculator, tips on how to create a healthy diet, information on the importance of exercise and, compliments of Fitness Magazine, an exercise routine. Fitness, published by Meredith Corp., is a women’s magazine targeting women’s wellness interests. A Weight Tip Booklet offers additional information on how to lose weight safely, strategies for healthy eating when dining out, advice on how to correctly read food labels and coupon savings on related products.

Those pamphlets will be available at any Rite Aid store nationwide.

Rite Aid’s focus on weight management is part of its yearlong commitment to patient health and wellness. Each year Rite Aid offers free information, answers and guidance on health and wellness topics including allergy awareness, skin care, pain management, diabetes and heart health.

Currently, Lindora operates four health clinics in Rite Aid stores in Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Laguna Niguel. In October 2007, plans for five additional health clinics in Southern California were announced and are expected to open by spring of this year. Additionally, Lindora’s line of diet products including a selection of protein bars, shakes, nutritional supplements, weight loss program books, instructional DVDs and the newly-introduced “Weight Loss Starter Kit” are also available at all Southern California Rite Aid locations.
