Rite Aid, Save-A-Lot open more co-branded stores

CAMP HILL, Pa. Rite Aid on Monday announced the opening of five more co-branded Save-A-Lot Food Stores/Rite Aid Pharmacy locations in Greenville, S.C.

This follows the Sept. 27 debut of the first co-branded Save-A-Lot/Rite Aid Pharmacy in Easley, S.C. Rite Aid has entered into a licensing agreement with Save-A-Lot, a subsidiary of Supervalu, to add the discount, limited-assortment grocery store concept to 10 existing Rite Aid stores in the Greenville market.

“The response by customers to our new co-branded store in Easley has been great, and we’re excited that we‘re now able to expand the concept to five more locations,” stated Ken Martindale, Rite Aid COO. “By co-branding with Save-A-Lot, we’re able to continue offering the Rite Aid pharmacy services and health and beauty items people have come to expect, and at the same time offer high-quality grocery products like fresh meats and produce at great prices.”

About 75% of the nonpharmacy part of each store is devoted to Save-A-Lot. Grocery products offered by Save-A-Lot include a limited selection of fresh USDA inspected meat, processed smoked and packaged meat, fresh produce, frozen food, dairy products and dry groceries at prices up to 40% lower than conventional grocery stores. Grocery products include both Save-A-Lot exclusive brands and national brands.

The remaining four stores in the 10-store test remain open during conversion to the co-branded concept and are scheduled to be completed later this month. Two of the four stores are located in Simpsonville, S.C., one is located in Greer, S.C., and one in Travelers Rest, S.C.

Rite Aid continues to offer a wide variety of health and beauty products, including national and Rite Aid private brands.
