Sally Beauty confirms data breach

3/18/2014

DENTON, Texas — Beauty retailer Sally Beauty Supply has confirmed a security breach whereby hackers got into the system and stole the payment card data of up to 25,000 customers.

“As experience has shown in prior data security incidents at other companies, it is difficult to ascertain with certainty the scope of a data security breach/incident prior to the completion of a comprehensive forensic investigation. As a result, we will not speculate as to the scope or nature of the data security incident,” the company stated.

The company stated that it will continue to work forensics firm Verizon on the investigation and is taking necessary actions and precautions to mitigate and remediate the issues caused by the security incident. In addition, it is working with the United States Secret Service on their preliminary investigation into the matter.

Sally Beauty said that it will be providing appropriate notifications to affected consumers and others, as necessary, as the facts develop and it learns more.
