Stop & Shop raises more than $128K for tornado relief efforts in Massachusetts
QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop has donated more than $128,000 in food and financial support to tornado relief efforts in central and western Massachusetts, the company said Tuesday.
Among the more than $128,000 in funds raised, Stop & Shop said that more than $88,000 was raised for the American Red Cross through a fundraising campaign that ran from June 17 to July 4 in all Stop & Shop stores across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The remaining funds were donated to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and other organizations in the area.
"When the tornadoes struck, we mobilized to provide food and supplies to several organizations, including the Red Cross, MEMA, local fire departments and the Worcester County Food Bank," Stop & Shop's New England division president Mark McGowan said. "We were also happy to give customers and associates a trusted way to help their neighbors during this difficult time. We cannot thank them enough for their generosity."
