Stop & Shop sponsors health and wellness summit for middle school students
PURCHASE, N.Y. — Stop & Shop will sponsor a healthy-eating summit for middle schoolers in New Jersey on Thursday, the supermarket chain said.
Stop & Shop, part of Ahold USA, announced that it would sponsor a "Healthy Kids Summit" at Hackensack Middle School in Hackensack, N.J. A panel of experts will discuss proper diet and nutrition, exercise, balancing homework and social activities, turning off electronic devices, family dinner hours and how to address bullying and other social pressures. The summit is being sponsored under a partnership with the YMCA of Greater Bergen County.
"The youngsters will hear about ways they can help their parents provide them with wise choices for meals and snacks," Stop & Shop New York Metro Division manager of public and community relations Arlene Putterman said. "They will also receive some very important advance on how to navigate through the issues that 21st century kids encounter."
The panel will include local health experts and former New York Giants wide receiver Stephen Baker.
