Value and promotions will take center stage in Target Corp.’s holiday plans, along with a televised “musical” starring a 10-time Grammy-winning recording artist.
In addition to new and exclusive merchandise in every product category, Target is offering an array of holiday deals, including the return — and extension by one week — of free shipping for all online orders from Oct. 25 through Jan. 1, 2017.
Cartwheel, Target’s digital savings app, is bringing back holiday deals, including 50% off of one toy per day between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24. And on Dec. 4, shoppers will save 10% percent on Target gift cards. Other returning offers include the chain’s 10 Days of Deals, which will feature a distinct offer each day for 10 days.
New this year is a broad promotion, beginning in mid-November, whereby shoppers can save $10 off a $50 purchase on a different product category each week, including grocery, home, apparel and accessories, trim and toys. In December, the promotion will be expanded, with the option to save $25 on purchases of $100 or more.
Marketing: The centerpiece of the retailer’s holiday marketing campaign will be a Broadway-style production, called “The Toycracker,” starring John Legend and his wife, the model and author Chrissy Teigan — and Target’s top 10 holiday toys.
The eight-minute musical, fashioned as Target’s modern take on the classic holiday tale of “The Nutcracker,” will air in two four-minute segments during the television premiere of Disney’s Frozen on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. EST. (For a video preview click here.)
The theatrical production will be woven throughout Target’s in-store holiday displays and online as well.
In another new holiday feature, Target is debuting Wondershop, a one-stop shopping destination for tree-trimming needs. The in-store shop, also available online, will offer a curated assortment of 2,000 new seasonal items.
