Vivus launches Qsymia in Costco, Walgreens stores

7/1/2013

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — A drug for treating obesity has become available through a network of about 8,000 retail pharmacies around the country, the drug's manufacturer said Monday.

Vivus said the drug, Qsymia (phentermine; topiramate) extended-release capsules would be available at Costco and Walgreens stores, including Duane Reade stores. The launch is happening ahead of the previously announced mid-July launch date.

"Today is the start of a new process that simplifies prescribing and improves access for patients in need of Qsymia, an effective and well-tolerated treatment for chronic weight management," Vivus president Peter Tam said. "With the retail expansion, we remain committed to increasing the availability of Qsymia in thousands of additional retail pharmacies nationwide in the coming weeks."
