WBA's Ornella Barra receives Guido Carli award

DEERFIELD, Ill. - The Associazione Guido e Maria Carli, an Italian association founded in 2010 to honor distinguished personalities from the world of economics, high finance, culture and social commitment, last month honored Ornella Barra, EVP Walgreens Boots Alliance and president and chief executive of global wholesale and international retail, with its coveted Guido Carli award among 12 of her compatriots.


"The award is open to Italian excellence, men and women, who in one way or another, will mark the pages of our history," the association stated. Now in its seventh year, the award was named for Guido Carli, a prominent Italian economist and politician.


The prestigious award was presented during a ceremony held in the Queen's Hall of the Palazzo Montecitorio, a palace in Rome and the seat of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.


The other honorees included Guido Barilla, a businessman; Giovanni Bazoli, a banker; Marco Boglione, president BasicNet; Alessandro Cabella, director Rome Cavalieri; Carlo Cimbri, director general Unipol; Luciano Fontana, director of Corriere della Sera; Piero Di Lorenzo, president IRBM Science Park Spa; Monica Maggioni, president RAI; Enrico Mentana, director Tg LA7; Mauro Moretti, general manager Finmeccanica; Peter Salini, CEO of Salini Impregilo; and Camillo Venesio, general manager of Banca del Piemonte.
