Walgreens to shut down drugstore.com and Beauty.com

DEERFIELD, Ill. - Walgreens on Thursday announced the company will discontinue operations of drugstore.com and Beauty.com in favor of focusing on its core online property Walgreens.com.



"Over the past year, we have been focusing on building new omni-channel capabilities on Walgreens.com with initiatives that improved assortment and website user experiences, enhanced our digital coupon capabilities to provide more customer value and added digital tools into our stores to elevate our shopping experiences," the company stated in an email to Drug Store News. "Expanding on these efforts is an important part of our strategy."



Walgreens had acquired drugstore.com and Beauty.com in 2011. The digital properties helped Walgreens create new digital capabilities with a stronger digital commerce approach.



The shutdown is expected to be complete by the end of September.
