Wellness brings big flavor to small dogs with new pet food

TEWKSBURY, Mass. — Wellness natural pet food has introduced two dog food recipes that support total well-being among small dogs.

The company said its Super5Mix Small Breed line now includes Small Breed Just for Puppy and Small Breed Healthy Weight varieties that provide necessary nutrition for growing dogs and those that need help achieving weight loss, respectively.

The Small Breed Just for Puppy recipe includes high-quality carbohydrates, proteins and fats to keep up with high-energy needs; antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables; and vitamins and minerals to help support healthy growth. A smaller kibble size for more petite mouths and teeth also is available. The Small Breed Healthy Weight, on the other hand, is made especially for overweight dogs and includes quality proteins — such as deboned turkey and salmon meal to help maintain lean muscle mass; pea fiber to naturally satisfy a dog's appetite; guaranteed levels of L-carnitine to help reduce overall body fat; and glucosamine and chondroitin to support hip and joint health.

The company said the products also cater to the special nutritional needs of small dogs, which have smaller digestive tracts than their larger counterparts.

Wellness Super5Mix Small Breed Just for Puppy and Small Breed Healthy Weight recipes are available in 4-lb. and 12-lb. bags at natural food and specialty pet retailers this month.
