Why patients use multiple pharmacies

8/28/2012

A little more than one-third of patients use multiple pharmacies to fill their prescriptions, according to an exclusive survey of 745 patients, conducted by AccentHealth and DSN in late July and early August. Why? The obvious reasons are convenience/location (63%) and price (46%), but there are many other factors. AccentHealth panelists skew almost two times higher than average in terms of total prescriptions filled (31.7) and trips to the pharmacy (17.9) per year, and one-third of their business — on average, about 10 scripts per patient — is landing somewhere other than their preferred pharmacy.

Patient Views is a new, exclusive consumer insights feature that will be appear in every edition of DSN magazine and the daily e-newsletter DSN A.M. If you could ask 4,000 patients anything at all, what would it be? Send your questions to [email protected].
