Braun launches Braun No touch forehead thermometer

12/9/2014

SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Braun on Tuesday launched the Braun No touch + forehead thermometer, a thermometer that offers two non-invasive ways to take a temperature reading. One method is completely touch-free and takes a measurement of the forehead; the other needs only a gentle touch in the same location. By eliminating the need for skin contact, the Braun No touch option is a more hygienic alternative when taking multiple readings on kids and adults.

"In just seconds and without even touching the skin, the new Braun No touch + forehead thermometer takes accurate, non-invasive temperatures," said Tanya Altmann, assistant clinical professor at Mattel Children's Hospital at UCLA. "Both methods of fever detection have clinically proven accuracy and can be used by medical professionals and families alike. The no touch option gives caretakers a more hygienic means of temperature taking, which is important when taking readings on multiple patients or family members."

The Braun No touch + forehead thermometer includes a series of features designed to make temperature taking and fever detection easier and more intuitive, the company said. The thermometer has a temperature guidance feature that helps caregivers better understand the meaning of a temperature. Depending on the reading, the color of the thermometer's display will change to green, yellow or red, helping the user easily decipher and monitor the status of a temperature.

The thermometer measures infrared energy radiated from the skin at the center of the forehead area. The thermometer's sensor captures twice as much thermal energy as the traditional forehead thermometer, Braun stated, producing a more accurate gauge of body temperature. The thermometer then automatically converts the final reading to the oral temperature equivalent.

The Braun No touch + forehead thermometer has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $59.99.
