Nebraska, Texas hold top spots on Walgreens’ Flu Index

Walgreens unveiled the results for its weekly flu index, which ranks to the states and markets experiencing the highest influenza incidences across the country.

Compiled by using the drugstore chain’s weekly retail prescription data for antiviral medications used to treat the flu, the index also ranks the markets and states experiencing the greatest gains in activity on a week-over-week basis.

The Top 10 Designated Market Areas, or DMA's, with flu activity for the week ending 12/22/2018 include:

  • Lincoln & Hastings-Kearney, Neb.;

  • El Paso, Texas (Las Cruces, N.M.);

  • Harlingen-Weslaco-Brownsville-McAllen, Texas;

  • Montgomery-Selma, Ala.;

  • Chattanooga, Tenn.;

  • Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas;

  • Omaha, Neb.;

  • Columbus, Ga. (Opelika, Ala.);

  • Atlanta, Ga.; and

  • Memphis, Tenn.


The top 10 states with flu Activity for the week ending 12/22/2018 are:

  • Nebraska;

  • Tennessee;

  • Texas;

  • Georgia;

  • Alabama;

  • New Mexico;

  • Kentucky;

  • Colorado;
