Three faulty genes found to be possible cause of painful bone disease
SCOTLAND Researchers at University of Edinburgh announced that they have discovered three defective genes that could help people suffering from a painful bone disease known at Paget’s disease.
Edinburgh researchers tested 300 thousand gene variations and all known human genes during a study of 750 individuals with the disease. Of the 750 patients, 104 were found to have a family history of the bone condition.
Prior to this study, only one gene was known to be in conjunction with one third of people suffering.
Researchers are now aware of three defective genes associated with the disease. Analyses as to why these particular genetic defects are a cause are currently underway.
