ACC commends Congress, FDA push to review BPA products

ARLINGTON, Va. A request by members of Congress to the Food and Drug Administration to expedite review of scientific evidence regarding the safety of bisphenol A in such products as plastic bottles has received praise from a group representing the chemical industry.

The American Chemistry Council said it welcomed the request, made by Reps. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Bart Stupak, D-Mich

“ACC and its member companies rely on and will respect FDA’s guidance on the safety of food-contact products containing BPA as they have consistently done in response to all prior FDA findings on BPA safety,” a statement by the organization read. “Timely decisions, based on science, will give the public the confidence it deserves in the safety of these products.”
