Akorn adds Monahan as SVP corporate development

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Generics company Akorn on Thursday announced that it had added a Walgreens executive to its staff. Rob Monahan, most recently Walgreens’s VP mergers and acquisitions, has been named Akorn’s VP corporate development.  


 


At Walgreens, Monahan was oversaw the development and execution of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures across the company. During his time at the company, which he joined in 2009, he was involved in more than 40 transactions worth more than $50 billion. Before joining Walgreens, Monahan worked in mergers and acquisitions at Option Care and Omnicare, among other companies. 


 


“Rob has a proven track record in business development having spearheaded the acquisitions of multiple targets in the healthcare arena,” Akorn CEO Raj Rai said. “We are glad to have Rob on board as we continue to advance our strategy of expanding our capabilities in the areas of human generics in alternate dosage forms, animal health generics, over-the-counter brands, and branded ophthalmics.”
