VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — AmerisourceBergen’s third-party logistics, or 3PL, provider ICS, has become the first pharmaceutical 3PL provider to achieve certification under ISO 9001:2015 standards from the International Organization for Standardization, the company announced Monday.
The ISO’s standards define the requirements for quality management systems and aim to help businesses achieve better efficiency, higher customer satisfaction and improved patient safety. The certification recognizes ICS’ ability to manage complex logistics and its impact on efficiency in the pharmaceutical supply chain, particularly with regard to products that require special handling.
“Becoming the first 3PL provider to receive this certification is a significant accomplishment for AmerisourceBergen, ICS and our customers,” ICS president Peter Belden said. “As a global leader in specialty logistics, we are continually investing in our distribution network in order to improve access, increase efficiency, enhance patient care and drive innovation in the delivery of healthcare. The ISO 9001:2015 certification recognizes these efforts and demonstrates our commitment to a safe, secure and efficient pharmaceutical supply chain.”
ICS beat the deadline by which it had to be compliant with the ISO 90001:2015 standards by 19 months, AmerisourceBergen said, attributing it to already existing intense quality management processes and standards.
