Amgen lets 23 Colorado employees go

10/17/2007

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. Amgen has laid off 23 of its planned 1,500 layoffs from its offices in Longmont and Boulder, Colorado.

The layoffs are a result of a restructuring effort by the company following lower-than-expected sales of its leading anemia drug Aranesp. Most of the layoffs came from the company’s headquarters in California and from offices in Rhode Island.

Also, 700 Amgen workers nationwide took a “voluntary transition” package. Amgen’s campuses in Colorado employed a total of 1,250 as of this past summer. The layoffs in Colorado represent 1 percent of the total layoffs.
