12/13/2007

ORANGE, Calif. The California Rx Card Program reported that more than 55,000 Californians have received a free prescription drug card since the program’s launch on Oct. 1.

The cards, which are available to all uninsured and under-insured residents, provide an average 30 percent savings on most prescription drugs. Retailers participating in the program included Longs Drug, Rite-Aid and Walgreens. The program is being administered throughout the state by Word & Brown Companies with assistance from United Networks of America.

“The California Rx Card was launched to help the uninsured and under-insured people of California afford prescription medications,” said program director Edward J. Brown III. United Networks has helped launch similar programs in 15 states including New York and Florida.
