Diabetes camps kick off again this summer
ALEXANDRIA, Va. A week away at summer camp is a tradition for many kids in the United States, including those with diabetes, thanks to a long-standing program from the American Diabetes Association.
The ADA has sponsored a network of 65 summer camps for children and adolescents with diabetes for years. The camps feature many of the same activities as other summer camps, such as talent shows and competitions between cabins, as well as programs to teach attendees how to control their blood sugar and build confidence while living healthily.
The camps operate from June to August, with attendees ranging in ages from 5 to 17 years. They also have recently gained the attention of local media, with newspapers like the Troy, N.Y. Record and CBS affiliate KTHV of Little Rock, Ark., profiling camps in those areas.
