FLINT, Mich. — Diplomat Pharmacy on Tuesday announced that, in honor of American Pharmacists Month, it would be hosting a Diplomat Dialogue series that would take a closer look at specialty pharmacy the role of pharmacists.
The company is teaming with industry leaders share with industry members and patients the unique role that pharmacists in specialty, their skillset and their personal approach to specialty care occupy. The series of video vignettes will feature Diplomat SVP clinical services, education and human resources Gary Rice; American Pharmacists Association EVP and CEO Thomas Menighan; Amber pharmacy’s chief pharmacy officer Micaila Ruiz; and National Association of Specialty Pharmacy board member Burt Zweigenhaft.
"We are excited to partner with such industry leaders as we highlight pharmacists in specialty and recognize the role they have in taking care of patients each day," Rice said. "With the expanding role of pharmacists, it is important for us to show our appreciation and their benefit to the health care system."
With the Association of American Medical Colleges projecting a shortage of between 61,700 and 94,700 physicians by 2025 — a shortage that will be especially acute in specialty conditions — specialty pharmacies are a quickly growing component of the healthcare ecosystem.
"A specialty pharmacy serves the nation's most critically ill patients," Menighan said. "Partnering with Diplomat to create this dialogue is a new way for us to bring patients and professionals together, listen to these stories, and find insight for us all."
