Drug makers team with retail clinics to assist with MTM

12/5/2008

NEW YORK Pharmaceutical companies are moving in on the growing retail clinic industry, the reports said last week.

Drug makers are helping clinics set up programs, especially those concerned with smoking cessation, obesity, asthma and diabetes.

Many pharmaceutical companies are collaborating with retail clinics to offer programs for weight loss and other health issues, though the drug makers generally don't want to be identified, according to analysts. Patients receive weekly phone calls and emails to track their progress and make monthly visits to the clinic.

“Many pharmaceutical companies are working closely with retail clinic operators to create programs specifically for the retail clinic environment,” said Mary Kate Scott, founder and chief executive officer of healthcare consulting company Scott & Co. “These clinics are well positioned to deliver screening or wellness programs such as cholesterol checks with hypertension management, smoking cessation and weight loss.”
