FDA approves generic treatment of thyroid deficiency
PITTSBURGH The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic drug from Mylan to treat thyroid deficiency.
Mylan announced that it received approval for liothyronine sodium tablets USP in the 5-mcg, 25-mcg and 50-mcg strengths.
The tablets are a generic version of King Pharmaceuticals’ Cytomel, which had sales of $54 million for the 12 months ending March 31 for the same strengths, according to IMS Health data. Mylan said shipment of the drug has begun.
