FDA approves generic version of Merck’s Trusopt eyedrops

ROCKVILLE, Md. The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic version of Merck’s Trusopt eyedrops, according to agency reports.

The FDA approved Teva’s version of the drug Thursday under its generic name, dorzolamide hydrochloride. The drops are used for treating ocular hypertension and glaucoma.

The branded version of the drug had sales of $617.2 million in 2005, according to the most recent data available from Merck. Sandoz, Apotex and Hi-Tech Pharmacal sell generic versions as well.
