FDA approves Taro's generic Penlac
HAWTHORNE, N.Y. The Food and Drug Administration has approved Taro’s application for the drug Ciclopirox Topical Solution, the generic of Penlac.
The company is now one of 11 manufacturers to receive approval to launch a generic version of the anti-fungal medication, since it lost its patent a few days ago. Sales of the drug, according to industry sources, are about $88 million annually.
Taro also received approval to launch a grape flavor of the allergy medication Loratadine syrup, which the company believes is the first grape flavored Loratadine syrup product in the U.S.
