FDA grants approval to Unichem for generic Sonata

MUMBAI, India The Food and Drug Administration granted approval to Unichem Laboratories’ zaleplon capsules in 5mg and 10mg doses, the Mumbai-based company announced Wednesday.

Zaleplon is a drug for short-term treatment of insomnia. Unichem’s capsules are the generic equivalent of Kings Pharmaceuticals’ Sonata capsules.

Sonata had sales of $78.7 million in 2007, according to Kings financial data.
