First 2 SynMed Ultra machines hit United States

5/11/2018
Pharmacy automation company Synergy Medical has brought its SynMed Ultra system to the United States. The Montreal-based company installed the first high-capacity automation solution stateside at Absolute Pharmacy in North Canton, Ohio in February, and at CareKinesis in Moorestown, N.J., shortly after, the company announced recently.

SynMed Ultra offers high-capacity blister card production for pharmacies, filling both single-dose and multi-dose cards and providing customizable adherence labels. Synergy Medical says the automation can fill 240 single-dose cards per hour, or 102 multi-dose cards per hour.

“At Absolute Pharmacy, we’ve been using adherence packaging for almost five years now, so we intend to convert those patients and attract new patients to the SynMed-generated adherence packaging,” said Jerry Liliestedt, vice president of pharmacy operations at Absolute Pharmacy. “We hope to have 2,000 patients in the coming year using that SynMed-generated adherence packaging.”

Absolute Pharmacy COO Kevin Fearon said that the flexibility of the packaging options was a key reason the company opted for SynMed.

“You’re not locked into one consumable or product package, and to have flexibility in how your product looks and is delivered to the consumer is very important,” he said. “There’s a continuum of care and we can use this product line and change the package or adapt to each setting using the various consumables that are available, that’s why we thought SynMed fit our strategic plans.”
