Fougera, Nycomed US celebrate 160th birthday

2/18/2009

MELVILLE, N.Y. A company that has seen the Civil War and the Great Depression celebrated its 160th birthday Feb. 11.

Generic drug maker Fougera and parent company Nycomed US announced Wednesday the anniversary of its 1849 founding in Brooklyn, N.Y. — at that time a separate city from New York City — by French immigrant Edmond Fougera.

"To see a company still thriving 160 years after it was founded is quite an achievement," Nycomed CEO Hakan Bjorklund said in a statement. "Fougera remains a key business unit for Nycomed."
