Generic anxiety drug approved by FDA

ROCKVILLE, Md. The Food and Drug Administration has approved a generic drug for anxiety, according to agency records.

The FDA approved Alembic's meprobamate tablets in the 200 mg and 400 mg strengths. 

InvaGen Pharmaceuticals and Watson Labs also market versions of the drug. 

The drug was introduced more than 50 years ago. It is a Schedule IV controlled substance.
