Generic Wellbutrin comes under scrutiny

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. According to a report from ConsumerLab.com, generic versions of the anti-depressant drug Wellbutrin are releasing the active ingredient in the drug at a different rate than the brand.

The company started the study after being contacted by the authors of “The People’s Pharmacy,” who said that they had received letters from readers complaining about the generic versions.

The people complained that when they switched from the brand to the generic, they experienced headaches, irritability, nausea, insomnia, and some experienced a return of depressive symptoms.

The Generic Pharmaceutical Association is telling consumers to not pay attentions to the website, and instead listen to the Food and Drug Administration and U.S. Pharmacopeia.
