Drug pricing resource GoodRx, in a blog post, recently highlighted the impact that the recent introduction of a generic version of Viagra had on the market. Since the first generic Viagra — from Teva, followed by Greenstone's authorized generic — hit the market in December, GoodRx said weekly prescriptions are up 27% over 2017, driven by the generic.
Roughly 15% of the sildenafil market now belongs the brand-name erectile dysfunction drug, with the generic representing the rest. The branded drug’s share, GoodRx points out, is driven by Pfizer’s efforts to use the pill’s name recognition to retain patients.
