Lansing, Mich., government sues retail pharmacy chains

LANSING, Mich. The city government of Lansing, Mich., is suing several retail pharmacy chains in federal court over allegations that they violated a state law regulating generic drug sales and overcharged city workers for the drugs, according to published reports.

According to reports in Lansing-area media, city attorney Brig Smith alleged that Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid violated a law that exists in three states, including Michigan, and restricts the amount of profits that retail pharmacies can collect from generic drugs.

The retail pharmacy chains have asked the court to throw out the case, according to the reports. A spokeswoman for Rite Aid declined to comment, saying the company doesn’t comment on pending litigation.
