Lupin gets FDA clearance for generic Medrol tablets

The Food and Drug Administration has greenlighted Lupin’s generic Medrol (methylprednisolone) tablets. The generic of Pharmacia and Upjohn's branded product will be available in dosage strengths of 2 mg, 4 mg, 8 mg, 16 mg and 32 mg.

Lupin's generic Medrol is indicated to treat endocrine disorders, rheumatic disorders, collagen diseases, dermatologic diseases, allergic states, ophthalmic diseases, respiratory diseases, hematologic disorders, neoplastic diseases, edematous states, gastrointestinal diseases, acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis, tuberculous meningitis with subarachnoid block or impending block when used concurrently with appropriate anti-tuberculous chemotherapy, and trichinosis with neurologic or myocardial involvement.

Methylprednisolone tablets had a market value of approximately $114.3 million, according to December 2018 IQVIA data.
