McKesson salutes pharmacists as part of American Pharmacists Month

9/30/2016

SAN FRANCISCO - McKesson on Friday celebrated the impact pharmacists across all practice settings – community/retail, hospital and health systems, long-term care and government/military – have on the health of their patients and communities, as part of American Pharmacists Month.

“As one of the most trusted and accessible health care professionals, community pharmacists are driving innovative solutions to deliver patient education, adherence support and financial assistance designed to improve patient outcomes,” stated Crystal Lennartz, chief pharmacist, Health Mart. “McKesson and Health Mart support the expanded role of pharmacists across all practice settings and commend the American Pharmacists Association for celebrating pharmacists’ dedication to providing their customers with extraordinary service that improves patient care and impacts their local communities every day.”

Sponsored by the American Pharmacists Association, the goal of APhM is to draw attention to the pharmacy profession and to educate the public, policy makers and other health care professionals about the role pharmacists play in the reduction of overall health care costs and the safe and effective management of medications.

“The role of the clinical pharmacist is rapidly expanding to stay ahead of the changing dynamics brought upon by health care reform," commented Mark Eastham, SP and general manager McKesson Pharmacy Optimazation. "Tasked with identifying initiatives that can increase revenue and reduce costs while improving patient care, pharmacists are increasingly taking more accountability for medication therapy and superior patient outcomes. With an expanding scope of service and greater collaboration with other members of the care team, pharmacists are integral to the long-term success of health care transformation.”
