Merck Manual professional app update makes mobile reference guide free

9/9/2016

KENILWORTH, N.J. — A new update to the mobile app for the Merck Manual for Healthcare Professionals is broadening access to the reference guide. Merck announced Thursday that with the latest update, the app is entirely redesigned and free. Once the app is downloaded, its content is saved offline so it can be accessed with or without an Internet connection.

“In today’s mobile world, healthcare professionals expect critical health information at their fingertips, with or without an internet connection,” Merck Manuals editor-in-chief Dr. Robert S. Porter said. “Always having a trusted medical resource readily at hand can make all the difference.”

The app has more than 1,000 photos and illustrations and includes all of the subjects found in the professional version. Topics are written and updated regularly by medical experts, and when an Internet connection is available, users can access drug reference information, medical news and editorials, among other features.

The company said that the consumer app has been updated alongside the professional one, and that neither app collects user data, nor do they contain ads. Both apps can be downloaded in the iTunes App Store or the Google Play store.
