MinuteClinic offers hep A vaccine amid Ohio outbreak
6/27/2018
With Ohio’s health department reporting more than 80 cases of Hepatitis A since the beginning of the year, MinuteClinic is stepping up to offer the Hepatitis A vaccine to unvaccinated Ohioans. The clinic arm of CVS Health said that all 64 of its locations in Ohio are currently stocking the vaccine.
The hepatitis A vaccine may provide protection if given within two weeks of exposure. MinuteClinic noted that patients who have previously had hepatitis A or received two doses of the hepatitis A vaccine don’t need to be immunized again. The vaccine can be provided to adults and children as young as 24 months old.
The vaccine is administered in a primary dose and a second booster dose roughly six months after the first. MinuteClinic said it would replenish its vaccine supplies as needed, and advised patients to check with their insurance plans for coverage ahead of their visit. The nearest MinuteClinic location can be found on its website or through the CVS Pharmacy app, both of which can also be used to hold a place in line.
